The power of pets: an introverts best friend

They say pets take after their owners.

On the surface, this couldn't be further from the truth if you look at my cat, Fawkes, and I.

He loves nothing more than meeting new people; having no issue approaching strangers for a fuss, where I struggle to even hold a conversation. He can often be found hanging around in random people's garden or with his nose squashed up the window hoping to escape.

The complete opposite to me; I crave the comfort of my fortress of solitude and have a panic attack at the thought of talking to anyone outside of my social bubble.

That being said however, at the end of each day Fawkes will come home and curl up on something fluffy to take a nap and recharge - and trust me when I say he is very grumpy if he doesn't get his nap! Much like an introvert will need to recharge after a busy day of social interaction.

Of course, cats and humans are very different creatures, but I like to think we're more alike than people think.

As an introvert, being around people can be draining. Where as being around my cat has a very calming and tranquil effect on me (when he's not biting my ankles, granted).

I think most introverts will be able to relate to this as pets bring a very different kind of energy. They can help you to feel less alone, whilst not draining your social battery. They are content to curl up under a blanket with you and hide from the world.

With cats (and most pets) being intelligent creatures, Fawkes is very in-tune with my emotions - often found snuggled up on my lap when I'm having a particularly bad day.

His calming nature comforts me and his playfulness helps me to re-charge just that little bit quicker.

I truly believe that a pet is an introverts best friend.

If you're stuck in that never ending cycle of feeling lonely, but not feeling up to being around people, getting a pet may be the answer to your prayers.

Let me know how your pet helps you!

Ps. Please only consider getting a new pet if you have room in your life, and your heart. It's not a decision to be taken lightly.
